When most people think of a first birthday session, they immediately picture a traditional cake smash.

But one of my favorite things about milestone photography is creating sessions that truly reflect your child’s personality and the season of life they are in.

And honestly… this Plano milestone session may have been one of the most fun and memorable alternatives to a traditional cake smash I have ever photographed.

Instead of only doing cake, this family decided to include their son’s absolute favorite food:
a steak smash session.

And it was adorable.

This sweet family wanted to still include a traditional cake smash during their son’s first birthday session, but they also wanted to document something that genuinely represented him at this stage of life.

And apparently… this little guy loved steak.

So they grilled him his very own steak, placed him down, and simply let him enjoy it however he wanted.

The result?
