As a Plano maternity and family photographer, one of the locations I photograph at most often is Arbor Hills Nature Preserve in Plano, Texas.

It is one of the most popular photography locations in the Dallas area, and honestly, it is easy to understand why.

Arbor Hills offers so much variety within one location, making it an incredible option for both maternity and family photography sessions.

Things to Know Before Your Arbor Hills Maternity or Family Session

While Arbor Hills is absolutely gorgeous, there are a few things families should know before planning their session there.

There Is Typically Quite a Bit of Walking

One of the biggest downsides to Arbor Hills Nature Preserve is that there is usually a decent amount of walking involved.

Unfortunately, you cannot typically park directly beside the main photography areas.

This means we often walk to different spots throughout the preserve during your session.

For maternity sessions especially, this is something to consider depending on:

  • how far along you are
  • the weather
  • and your comfort level

I always encourage clients to wear comfortable shoes while walking between locations and then change into photo shoes once we arrive at the main spots.

Arbor Hills Can Be Very Crowded

Another thing to keep in mind is that Arbor Hills is an extremely popular location.

Not only is it popular with photographers, but it is also heavily visited by:

  • walkers
  • families
  • cyclists
  • runners
  • and visitors enjoying the park

Because of this, it can feel crowded at times, especially during:

  • spring
  • fall
  • weekends
  • and sunset hours

Parking can also become difficult depending on the season and time of day.

However, despite the crowds, Arbor Hills still remains one of the most beautiful locations for maternity and family photography in Plano.
